Sunnyvale New Resident Guide
Designed 20-page document for the City of Sunnyvale, Calif., to give new residents a feel for their new home town, and acquaint them with local services.
This was a project for my 9-5 job with the City of Sunnyvale. We needed to create a guide for new residents to give them information about city services, important phone numbers, things to do in the area, etc.
The trick here was to prevent the document from looking dry and bureaucratic. We wanted people to be excited about their new home, and felt that the guide should reflect that.
One of the nice things about the design work I get to do with the city is that I often have an opportunity to have input on what the finished product should look like. This was a prime example of that. I designed the publication from the ground up, from layout to color scheme to font choice, and presented it to my bosses for tweaks and approvals. The result was a document I’m really proud of , and is engaging, useful and easy-to-read.
You can see the full document online at the City of Sunnyvale’s Web site: NewResidentGuide.inSunnyvale.com.
Among the elements I created for this project was a stylized map of the city for the inside cover.
